Chainmail Dragons

Description

About a year ago, I saw a dragon in a shop in Wales, made of coloured chainmail links. Shortly after that, I was given some steel jump rings and attempted to make a copy of the shop dragon based on a couple of photos. I spray painted the rings blue, and generally made a mess of the whole thing (steel links are very hard to work with - take a lot of effort to bend, and paint scrapes off the rings very easily).
About 6 months later, having completely given up on the idea of chainmail dragons, I came across this photo by *SerenFey [link] of one of her chainmail dragons in that day's daily deviations. I was inspired again and went on a search for websites selling the jump rings. For some reason I failed to find anywhere in the UK and postage prices put me off completely.
Another couple of months, and I was lucky enough to win one of her hatchling dragons in a contest she ran. I showed it to a friend, and she linked me to a UK website selling chainmail supplies.

Since then, I've bought a few bits and pieces and madea few bracelets and stuff I've already uploaded. I've also been working on developing my own variation of the much loved chainmail dragon. The ones in this photo are my finished design, more or less (still awaiting an order to arrive to add one final finishing touch).

Here you have an 11 inch standard dragon in red and silver, a 7 inch standard dragon with a sort of fire embers theme, and a (slightly over) 9 inch beaked dragon in what I think of as seaweed colours.

I will be uploading some closeups of the completely finished dragons when the stuff has arrived to complete them :D

These are ace - I did find a pattern for a keychain dragon but being a newbie to chain mail I really struggled with the head - although the rest of the body seems ok the head is really stiff and tight - I’m afraid to use it in case it snaps - trying to get the keyring in the mouth was a nightmare - it sort of put me off dragons a bit. Seeing yours I would love to have another go - do you have a pattern?
