So after another year of exams, and other life things, I'm finally updating my journal again. Would have done it sooner, but exams were followed by a week of cleaning my house to move to the new one, followed by actually moving, followed by helping a friend re-decorate her house.
As usual I've set myself a nice long list of things to do this summer, and as usual I probably won't achieve even half of them due to finding wonderful new things to do (and being roped into help parents with their house decorating). Most of my list includes 'finish things from last year's list' with one or two new items mostly along the lines of 'learn this as you will find it useful next year'. Next year is my final year at uni, and I'd like to aim to have most outstanding personal projects ticked off over the summer so I can start the year without things still demanding my attention.
I've been doing a few things recently, some chainmail, some drawing, some reading books and some video games - all of which I have more plans than progress on. Drawing-wise, I have two clear targets for the summer, the second part of my deer drawings miniseries started here squanpie.deviantart.com/art/Th… and another personal piece. Alongside this I have other things I just want to practice but which might not immediately make it online. I'm also going to be trying to take part in *LhuneArt's #FortnightlyCharacter challenge which looks like a really great way to practice designs and push me to try things out of my usual comfort zone. My first sketches for the current one are here if anybody fancies giving me their thoughts on which one(s) they like best for me to work on more? squanpie.deviantart.com/art/FC…
In the chainmail department, I've had a few more ideas and got hold of some new supplies and will be experimenting with them in the next couple of weeks or so. I got started on one thing, only to find that the part I'd made wasn't quite what I was after, but it does look like it has potential for some sort of use: squanpie.deviantart.com/art/A-… any ideas?
Other projects include a steampunk nerf gun mod that's been in the works for far too long, as well as a couple of banners and some wooden stools I wanted to decorate. Maybe some sewing things, and I might be learning to knit as well
At the same time as all that, I'll be trying to work through my lists of books, films and games I own but haven't read/watched/played yet. Naturally this will probably lead to me being distracted from all the creative projects, but that's just how things go. Maybe I'll set myself a challenge to illustrate something from each book/film/game I tick off in order to keep the creative side alive.
Theoretically I should be doing something to do with characters and music in this journal, since *Jacobite1 tagged me nearly a month ago now, but I can't really think of anything to put in it. I don't tend to associate characters with music much.
